Reasons to love this Teriyaki Salmon
It doesn’t require a long marinating time. All you need is 10 minutes and a Ziploc bag.
I use the teriyaki sauce both for marinating and serving. That makes everything so spot on delicious and so good.
This is a very versatile recipe you can prepare it in a skillet, oven, or grill and I do it in the skillet.
Once you have a look at my step by step pictures you can tell this is a keeper and so easy.
What you need for this Teriyaki Salmon Recipe
Salmon: I use plant based, but you can do whatever you want and like. It will work with anything.
Sesame oil: I really like this oil, because it adds such a great and delicious flavors to dishes like Roasted Sesame Dressing. Truly you can use any oil, but sesame is my favorite.
Soy sauce adds a lot of savory and umami flavor which goes so well with our salmon filets.
Brown sugar makes a deep and sweet flavor which is just great.
Mirin has a tangy and rich flavor which is often use for teriyaki sauces.
Garlic and ginger: both ingredients are great seasonings.
Scallions are a great topping it adds a nice crunch, texture and freshness. It really brightens up everything.
How to make Teriyaki Salmon
Prepare sauce
Into a bowl combine: soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, mirin and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until combined and set a side.
Make salmon
Add salmon filets and half of the sauce (reserve the other half) to a Ziploc bag. Close the bag and carefully shake back and fourth. Let marinate for around 10 minutes.
Heat 1 Tbs sesame oil in a skillet. When hot, give salmon filets into the pan and cook them for 4 minutes, flipping them once. Add remaining teriyaki sauce and let simmer for 2 minutes more. Serve Teriyaki Salmon on a plate and scallions on top.
Alternatively you can bake your salmon to do that
Preheat oven to 410F.
Marinate the salmon filets as above and then transfer them to a baking dish. I like to use a 9×13 inch pan like I do in my Focaccia.
Bake for around 5 minutes. After 5 minutes add remaining sauce to the pan and bake for 5 minutes more. Remove Teriyaki Salmon from pan and serve with green onions on top.
Tips and tricks
If you can’t find or don’t want to use mirin, you can try rice vinegar or white wine vinegar. I would use a little bit less vinegar as the amount for mirin because vinegar has more acidity in it.
You can easily serve Teriyaki Salmon with rice or noodles to make a fuller meal. Sprinkle with sesame, delicious.
