This Sweet and Sour Cauliflower is easy to prepare with my sweet and sour sauce. A keeper that makes even pickiest kids eat vegetables. It is flavorful, simple but impressive and can be served alone or over rice (leftover is great). No one would ever taste it is entirely vegan and so budget friendly.
Cauliflower is seriously one of my favorite vegetables.
It is very versatile and can be used in so many different types of recipes, like this Bang Bang Cauliflower – comfort food at its finest – simply as a Whole Roasted Cauliflower or in a Cauliflower Soup.

What you need for this easy recipe
Making this Sweet and Sour Cauliflower is super straightforward. No fancy ingredients are required.
Just make sure you have the following at hand:
- my Sweet and Sour Sauce
- cauliflower
- garlic powder
- cornstarch
- oil
How to make Sweet and Sour Cauliflower
In a Ziploc bag or bowl combine cauliflower florets, oil, cornstarch, and garlic powder. Season generously with a pinch of salt and pepper. Make sure everything is mixed properly. If you use a freezer bag, just shake it back and fourth.
Next heat oil in a sauce pan and make sure it is really hot. Add covered cauliflower florets and deep fry them for around 4 minutes, until golden and lightly browned. Remove the florets from the oil and transfer to a frying pan.
Now is time to add the sweet and sour sauce. Carefully mix everything and cook on medium heat for 1 minute more.
Serve immediately on its own or over rice. I guess quinoa works also well.
Baked version:
Preheat oven to 420°F.
Mix all ingredients except for the Sweet and Sour Sauce as in the frying instructions. In a casserole dish, spread florets, bake for around 20 minutes.
After baking add sauce and mix, serve as you like.
With both methods you treat yourself and your family to a delicious meal.
Personally, I prefer the deep-fried version. I think it adds even more flavor and texture than baking.
But that is up to your own preferences, just saying the result will be different.

I’m keen to try this recipe. I just want to clarify the amount of garlic powder. Is it 2 teaspoons or 2 tablespoons?

I made this and ended up liking the air fryer method best, but I doubled the sauce because the next night I made your stir fry and used this sauce versus the stir fry sauce, and everything was so very good! Thank you

Do you use fresh florets? Frozen? Steamed before fried? Thank you!
