A good curry paste is essential for many amazing dishes: curries (obviously), stews, soups, or stir fries.
Just think of my Cashew Curry Broccoli Stir Fry, the One Pot Chickpea Biryani, or the Red Curry Coconut Soup. All of them are, as always, naturally vegan and gluten free.
One of the question that you guys asked me a lot was where to find red curry paste? I always said it will be available in your local store or can be found online. Yet, some shops don’t seem to offer it and as a red curry paste substitute, I suggested the use of curry powder – but the taste and texture will be different.
But today the wait for a better solution is over. This is the only Thai red curry paste recipe you will need for any curry or other dish with a curry paste. It is on hand and easily made at home.
No more searching for shops or online purchases. With this I bring you an easy recipe that is ready in minutes, made with only simple ingredients.
If you’re looking for amazing flavors and a condiment that you can count on, make this best red curry paste. You will add this to any dish for which flavor is needed, a keeper for everything and any day.
Red curry paste ingredients
This is what you need. Yes, it is that easy!
- Tomato paste
- Minced garlic
- Onions
- Red chilis
- Spice mix (cumin, chili powder, ground coriander, ginger)
Only 5 simple ingredients are required, not counting salt and pepper.
How to make red curry paste
Combine tomato paste, garlic, onions, chilis, and spices in a blender or food processor.
Blend and process until smooth and well combined to a paste.
So simple and it makes such an amazing condiment for dinner, lunch, or meal prep to have on hand. It makes any curry better and more delicious for real.
Pro tip: blender-free version
I know some of you guys don’t have a blender or food processor. Good news: that is no problem for this recipe.
You can also very easily make this curry paste in a single bowl by just mixing everything together. Use a whisking wire for this.
Just make sure that you really finely chop the garlic, onions, chilis, and ginger from the spice mix.
If you like to make a bigger batch, just double or triple the amount of ingredients.
This is something I’m doing regularly now, making a larger portion in advance.
Also you can store the red curry paste in an airtight container with a lid on top for around 30 days in the fridge.
Try this Red Curry Paste and make curries, stews, soups and more.

In the south, we don’t call peppers “chilis”so I never know what they mean, exactly. Is it the hot ones or a red bell pepper? Please specify what these chilis are called. Thanks.
