Pomodoro Sauce

Pomodoro Sauce is an amazing homemade pasta sauce that comes together in under 20 minutes but tastes as if it has simmered for hours like any classic tomato sauce. I use one shortcut ingredient that makes a big difference that will save you a good amount of time. Serve with your favorite pasta and you know it will taste delicious anytime.

A fork full of pasta with the Pomodoro Sauce.

Friends, I can vouch and tell you this Pomodoro Sauce recipe is the only one you will need and even pickiest kids can’t say no to this when served with your favorite pasta or in casseroles.

Ingredients needed for making this Pomodoro Sauce are assembled on a wooden board.

Reasons to love this Pomodoro Sauce

Most homemade sauces take around 1 hour to make. But not this one: I give you an amazing result in under 20 minutes.

For many sauces you will also need a blender or food processor, but I’ll go straight to the pan.

This is such a fantastic pasta sauce: it is great with spaghetti, linguini, bowtie, rigatoni or bucatini which I love and use (see my step by step pictures). Or as a base for casseroles like my Eggplant Parmesan, Easy Homemade Lasagna, Toasted Ravioli, or Easy Homemade Lasagna

You will love how much flavor this Pomodoro Sauce has and how aromatic the result will be in such a short amount of time.

What you need for this tomato sauce

Tomato sauce and paste both add a bold tomato flavor. Many recipes use whole tomatoes that you blend in a food processor or blender. I go with no fuss and skip this entire step. You save half of the time and will get a creamy and smooth result which is aromatic and infused with bold flavors.

Dairy free butter and olive oil both are amazing. While the oil adds a great layer of robust and savory flavor, the butter gives this sauce a lot of creaminess and delicate buttery flavor without adding any cream.

I use fresh garlic and onion which provide a great flavor and texture when cooking in sauce.

Red pepper flakes give the sauce a little bit of a spice, really good.

Italian herbs: I simply use dried herbs which are just great and convenient. You have a lot freshness in one mix, yummy.

Vegan parmesan is something you won’t find anywhere else. But after testing, this was so amazing. Cheesy, satisfying and it really provides such a delicious flavor.

How to make Pomodoro sauce

Wow this Pomodoro tomato sauce is so easy to make.

If you need some pasta, cook them according to the package directions.

In a skillet, heat olive oil and butter. When hot, add the diced onions and garlic and fry everything for about 4 minutes.

Now add tomato sauce, tomato paste, red pepper flakes and mix well.

Continue with also mixing in the parmesan, and Italian herbs.

Finally season with a pinch of salt and pepper and let the Pomodoro Sauce simmer on medium heat for 6 minutes more.

Serve with pasta, enjoy.

Leftovers and freezing directions

You can store leftovers for around 5 days in the fridge. Also you can freeze the sauce in small or big batches according to your preferences for up to 3 months.

Tips and tricks

You see I keep the directions really simple and the Pomodoro Sauce comes together fast.

This is possible because I use a combination of tomato sauce and paste. Keep in mind you can use whatever you want: crushed, diced, whole tomatoes, but it will take longer than I claim for the preparation. Also you will probably need a food processor for mixing.

Fresh herbs like parsley are also delicious in this sauce.
