My Olive Chickpea Flour Bread recipe brings you a fresh homemade vegan and gluten free bread with extra flavor. Using my Olive Hummus in combination with chickpea flour results in a hearty taste that will blow you away. And you make this homemade bread sensation from only 5 ingredients.
There are few things that I love more than the smell of freshly baked bread filling my kitchen.
I have never made a secret out of the fact that I have a real weakness for homemade bread, and you know that well after having seen some of my previous recipes: The Hummus Homemade Bread, for example, or the Easy Roasted Garlic Naan.
It has been some time so I have really started to miss the smell of a new homemade bread baking in my oven. Nothing beats the delicious smell.
You really know what’s inside, unlike most of the time you buy something in the store.
Is it even vegan? Or gluten free for that matter? I bet most of the time, it is not. Plus they may have a lot of chemicals and weird additives that I personally do not want in my body.
I hope you guys come on board to make your own Olive Chickpea Flour Bread. This new recipe is a winner. The bread comes out addicting, tastes and smells amazing, is easy, homemade, versatile, drool-worthy, beautiful, full of flavor, gluten free, vegan, and simply delicious.
Before we move into the kitchen and I tell you how to make the homemade bread, I like to give you some extra advice.
While I often encourage you in my recipes to play around and adjust it to your liking, it is really important to follow the instructions here carefully.
Please don’t skip a step, or use different ingredients. You only need 5 ingredients and 3 easy steps, so it’s no big deal to follow the instructions precisely.
Please don’t use another hummus here, just stick to my Olive Hummus because the recipe is designed with it for the best flavor experience. With another hummus I can’t vouch for a similar result, taste, and texture.
In fact when you make the Olive Hummus, it’s important to add 6 more cloves of garlic. Also don’t drain the chickpeas but reserve the chickpea brine for the bread. It’s a binder and absolutely necessary for the texture, please don’t skip this.
When giving the sunflower seeds on top, cover the pan with aluminium foil. Otherwise the seeds will easily burn. It is really import to stick with baking time.
You only need chickpea flour for this gluten free homemade bread, not 5 different flours which you can find in many recipes when it comes to gluten free baking. Yes you have to make a mix with some different flours.
Now we are ready to head straight into the kitchen and start baking now, shall we?
First make the Olive Hummus according the directions and as I mentioned above do not drain the chickpeas. Reserve the chickpea brine and add 6 more cloves of garlic to the hummus.
Next mix hummus, chickpea flour, lemon juice, baking soda, the reserved chickpea brine, a pinch of salt in a bowl. Use a spatula to combine all until you have a well mixed dough.
Last step: Transfer dough to a baking pan prepared with parchment paper. Top with sunflower seeds, cover the pan with aluminium foil, and bake for 70 minutes at 405°F.
I really like to enjoy this bread warm, but it’s also amazing to let it cool. Both ways are delicious.
You can enjoy this plain, with some vegan butter, hummus, some veggies. It also makes a great sandwich bread for so many things, dream big.

Is there a typo in the instructions? It says to bake at 405 degrees for 70 min. I made it, and it was delish. I followed the directions exactly. I thought that maybe it could have been a little more "done", so to speak.
Should the oven temp be 450 degrees?? (typo or someone dyslexic?) My oven is spot on, and I have an oven thermometer. It was humid and rainy today when I baked it, but I don't think that was a big factor. I used commercial tahini, so no guessing there. please advise

Hi Leslie! I find the result perfect as it is. You can absolutely use a higher temperature, yet the result will be a bit different. Let me know what you think.

Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it! It came out delicious even though, by accident, I used baking powder instead of baking soda. Also, I didn't have tahini for the hummus. I think it will be excellent for avocado toast. Thanks!

How much hummus does the recipe use? Does it use the entire batch of olive hummus?
