What you need for this Animal Style Fries Recipe
- Fries
- Fried onions
- Satay sauce
- Vegan cheese shreds
It might sound a bit offbeat to use satay sauce for animal fries, but trust me guys this will take it to another level. It is simple fantastic. If you are like me, you will know that peanut butter makes everything better for real.
You only need 4 simple ingredients to make this recipe. Plus you save time by making my satay sauce in advance. Of course you can use any other peanut sauce you want.
Maybe you prefer a homemade one like this Thai Peanut Sauce with Basil or store bought. In the end it is up to you but of course the end result will be a little different. For example, you might want to add more seasoning when not making my homemade sauces.
Animal Style Fries method
Before we’re going straight to making this, preheat your oven to 425°F.
Prepare a sheet pan, with or without parchment paper (hint you might want to grease a bit your sheet pan with a bit oil, if not coated).
You’re ready and set. Distribute all the fries on the sheet and season them with a pinch of salt and pepper. Bake them for around 20 minutes.
While the fries are baking make the fried onions. Heat a small casserole or pot. Add vegan butter or oil, then the onions and fry for around 12 minutes until browned and golden. Set aside.
When the fries are done, add caramelized onions, vegan cheese shreds and bake for around 5 minutes more.
Last but not least, sprinkle some satay sauce over animal style fries and serve on plates, in bowls or enjoy straight from the sheet pan.
These Animal Style Fries make such a delectable dinner, or lunch that everyone will want to take a second or third plate.
Tips and tricks plus meal prep ideas
I used prepared fries in my recipe to save time. Usually those are already coated with oil, so there is no need for extra oil.
But if you want to make your own homemade fries please, make sure to coat this with an adequate amount of oil.
Keep also in mind, the size varies from fries and is different so you need to check individually the baking time in your case. Homemade fries need to bake longer, thicker frozen fries as well.

Note also that the satay sauce is a bit lighter since I added some extra liquid.
