Buffalo Homemade BBQ Sauce

My new Buffalo Homemade BBQ Sauce is an easy, satisfying recipe for a condiment to put on burgers, pasta, even salads. Or just use it as a dip with some veggie sticks or chips. Would you believe me you only need 6 ingredients for this homemade sauce that is also vegan and gluten free?

You guys know that for my recipes, I try to use only ingredients that I’m pretty sure you already got in your pantry. This one is of course no different.

But when I set my mind on something new, sometimes this turns out to be a bit more challenging than expected. Until I have the idea that beats all others.

Magic of this kind has also happened when I wanted to make a vegan Buffalo sauce. If you ever tried this flavor, I think you understand that it can be quite addicting?

Before vegan days I enjoyed it so much that at times I used it with everything possible.

Oh boy, I was hooked. But of course, a traditional Buffalo sauce is made with butter, so this is something I for sure don’t eat anymore.

If you followed me a bit, you know I have a secret ingredient that I use when I want to create a real butter flavor.

OK, I have used it a couple of times already, so I bet it’s not really a secret any more – but that’s what this blog is all about. So I’m actually happy if you know what I’m talking about.

Yes? No? OK, I’m talking about cacao butter.  With that one you can achieve the butter flavor that is so difficult to get right in a plant based way.

Of course, we have fantastic options like coconut oil, but sometimes its flavor is too dominant.

And what amazing things one can do with cacao butter, you can see for example in my Garlic Butter Avocado Bread or One Pot Garlic Butter Lentils.

After all this talk, I guess your mouth is watering by now? Those recipes are insanely delicious and this Buffalo Homemade BBQ Sauce is no exception.

It’s perfectly sweet, thanks to maple syrup, and at the same time spicy.

Say hello to the hot sauce! Both create these incredible flavors and make the recipe super versatile: it’s made for burgers, wraps, salads, pizzas and more.

Made in one pot, no blender or other tools are needed. It tastes so close to the real deal, I can’t believe it. It is super easy to make and the best condiment for BBQs or potlucks.

How to make this delicious Buffalo Homemade BBQ Sauce

Take my word: it can’t be any easier than this. Shall we start? All you need is a small saucepan. Melt the cacao butter over medium heat, then add all other ingredients to that pan.

Let the sauce simmer for about 4 minutes and make sure everything is well mixed and warmed. Transfer to a jar or enjoy immediately on burgers, pasta, or whatever you like.

This sauce tastes delicious both warm or cold, so no need to wait. I would guess it’s also absolutely amazing with some sweet potato fries.

One word to hot sauce. I find 3 Tbs is a good spice level, not too hot, but not too bland. I really like my things spicy, but everyone is different.

So if you need it really hot, don’t hesitate to increase the hot sauce to your own liking. Same if you prefer a bit less spicy, simply use a bit less than 3 Tbs.

You won’t believe how it will taste like the real deal. This was exactly the reaction I was hoping for when I served this to some friends. No one could believe it was dairy free.

This is the sauce you can bring along to many parties because you can’t go wrong with. Everybody will be able to enjoy it, and no special precautions for different diets are necessary.

Plus this Buffalo Homemade BBQ Sauce is a real time saver. Just whip everything in a pot together, cook it, and you are ready to go.

What makes this Buffalo Homemade BBQ Sauce so irresistible?

Could it get any better? I’m not sure and would say no. Done in under 5 minutes and you have a BBQ Sauce that will simply wow your guests.

It tastes so close to the real deal for good reasons. One of them is that we use vegan Worchester sauce here. Together with the cacao butter, it helps creating its real flavor. Really a double winner.

The vegan Worchester sauce takes it to another level. Just make sure it’s labeled as vegan, because classic  Worchester sauce is made from anchovies.

So not vegan, and make sure to pay attention to this information.

That of course is all true when you really need to be follow a 100% plant-based diet. Of course, you can play around with the ingredients a bit.

Regular Worchester sauce is fine, if you are not vegan and are simply looking for the best homemade BBQ sauce ever. Be my guest.

One more thing about your preferences: As you can see on the pictures, the BBQ sauce comes out rather thick if you follow the recipe. That is the way I prefer it, so that it is good for dipping and also stays on the burgers.

If you want to make it a bit thinner, you can add a tiny bit of vegetable broth. But not too much because otherwise it will destroy the flavor combination. So, handle this with care!
