What is Fried Pickle Dip?

Fried pickle dip is a creamy and tangy appetizer or snack inspired by the flavors of fried pickles.

It combines chopped pickles, cream cheese, sour cream, and seasonings to create a rich and zesty dip. Some recipes include breadcrumbs or fried pickle coating mixed in or sprinkled on top to give it the signature “fried” flavor and crunch.

It’s typically served with chips, pretzels, or veggies, making it a perfect party or game-day treat.

What ingredients do I need for Fried Pickle Dip?

The main ingredients in fried pickle dip are dill pickles, cream cheese, sour cream, and a mix of spices like garlic powder, onion powder, and dill for a punch of flavor.

The pickles are finely chopped to evenly distribute their tangy crunch throughout the creamy base.

To give it that fried pickle essence, some recipes incorporate crushed breadcrumbs or a sprinkle of crispy fried topping.

Breadcrumbs are toasted with vegan butter.

How to make Fried Pickle dip?

The preparation is straightforward.

First, prepare the breadcrumb mixture. To do that, heat vegan butter in a small saucepan until melted. Give breadbrumbs to the butter and reduce heat to medium-high. Fry the breadcrumbs for about five minutes until they begin to brown. Remove from heat and set aside.

Next, in a large mixing bowl, mix the chopped pickles with the sour cream, spices, and herbs. Combine until smooth, then add the most of the fried breadcrumbs (reserve some for topping), and mix again.

Top with the remaining breadcrums and chill the Fried Pickle Dip to let the flavors meld, and serve with your favorite dippers.

Chopped pickles, sour cream, herbs and spices are given ti a mixing bowl.

Serving Suggestions

  • Potato Chips: The salty crunch of classic potato chips pairs perfectly with the creamy and tangy dip.
  • Fresh Veggies: Carrot sticks, celery, or cucumber slices provide a crisp, refreshing balance to the rich flavors.
  • Pretzels: The sturdy texture and slight saltiness of pretzels make them an excellent choice for scooping up the dip.
Part of the breadcrumbs and butter are given to the mixing bowl with the other ingredients of Fried Pickle Dip.

Tips for Storage and Reheating

To store fried pickle dip, transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to 3-4 days. Ensure it’s kept cold to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.

For reheating, if the recipe includes a fried breadcrumb topping, warm the dip gently in the microwave or oven, stirring occasionally to maintain a smooth consistency, and sprinkle fresh breadcrumbs on top for crunch.

If serving it cold, allow the dip to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving to soften slightly. Always discard the dip if it develops an off smell, texture, or appearance.
